If You Have Decided To Seek Help For Your Bulimia, Then Identifying And Weighing Up The Most Effective Bulimia Treatments Is A Must!

When looking for bulimia treatment, it is important that you find a solution which matches your needs and current situation. Because once you begin, it is important that you are able to follow through with your treatment to its logical outcome. To this end, we have developed a range of treatment options which cater for all situations without compromising on quality or effectiveness.

Our treatment options include powerful psychological counseling techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamics, nutritional interventions and hypnosis. These are underpinned with leading edge tools such as Neurolingustic programming (NLP), emotional freedom therapy (EFT) and creative therapy to treat your bulimia. At Bulimia Hope, the way in which you receive your bulimia treatment will be tailored to suit your own specific needs, preferences and availability.

Click on one of the treatments below to read about it:

Bulimia Self Help: Home-study program

Break-Through Sessions

Ask Vathani a question

Private one-on-one counselling

The single most effective bulimia treatment is the one to one counseling. The sheer intensity and regular frequency such as weekly or fortnightly sessions prove to be the most successful. How often you receive this counseling would depend on how stable or chaotic your bulimia currently is, frequency and severity of your bingeing and vomiting behavior, as well as how quickly you wish to implement changes in your life.

You can choose to receive bulimia counseling by experts at Bulimia Hope either by:
• Face to face
• Telephone

Although in person is very effective, the next best option is telephone counseling. If you do not have a fully qualified bulimia counselor in your area, then telephone counseling would be a good choice for you.

Group counselling sessions

For some bulimia sufferers, in person or telephone counseling can be too intense or too expensive. Group Coaching is the answer to this problem. The bulimia treatment provides a shared and communal learning with others in a similar situation and who want the same outcome.

At Bulimia Hope, confidential groups are kept purposefully small and closed…so you will find that everyone in the group will benefit by getting the attention they need, and not being lost in the crowd.

Those unable to afford individual bulimia treatment will benefit from the same therapeutic journey, without compromising on the quality of the treatment.

The two group coaching options available are:
• Face to face
• Telephone

Group coaching varies in duration and is held twice a year, so you can join when you feel ready.

Bulimia Self Help: Home-study program Home-study program

If you prefer to adopt a more flexible approach which is tailored to your own schedule, at the pace that suits you and with the regular guidance from a bulimia expert, then the Bulimia Success Program will suit you best.

The Bulimia Success Program is based on the proven success of cognitive behavioral therapy; alongside other complimentary tools to make this method very effective. If you are a self starter and a committed individual with a lot of focus and want to free your life from bulimia and improve your overall health, then this option will appeal to you.

Beat bulimia workshop

This option is only currently available to UK residents, Bulimia Hope will shortly make this Beat Bulimia Workshop available in the USA and Europe.

The Beat Bulimia workshop is a whole day, interactive and experiential learning where you can expect some great insight, shifts and break throughs. You will leave feeling confident about applying your newly learned techniques and strategies to end all your bulimia behaviours, unwanted emotions and unhelpful thought patterns.

Click Here To Go Back To the Top of the Page

Break-Through Sessions

If time or a regular commitment is your biggest obstacle and is standing in the way of your bulimia recovery, then a 3 hour Break-Through session might be the answer. This is not for the faint hearted, as the intensity and insight is very concentrated.

However the treatment objectives, which you agree with your bulimia specialist before arriving for the session, will be achieved allowing you to return home and to your life with a new perspective, new skills, strategies and a laser focus on your recovery. This treatment is based on a “solution focused approach” and is mainly held in person, although it can be delivered over the telephone.

Click Here To Go Back To the Top of the Page

Ask Vathani a question

At times, knowing which way is forward can be very unclear, leaving you with too many questions and not enough answers.

On the other hand, you may be a parent, friend or family member and want to ask about:
• Signs and symptoms
• What may cause bulimia nervosa
• A medical question
• Food, diet and weight loss
• Changes in behavior
• Other eating disorders like anorexia and binge eating

If this is you, you may find it reassuring to know you can write directly to a bulimia expert at Bulimia Hope and ask your question. Your question will get answered within three working days. Although this is not therapy in itself, it is certainly the push many people need to start their bulimia recovery or to help them with managing relapses.

Click Here To Go Back To the Top of the Page

Bulimia can give you swollen glands, which have the effect of making your face look chubby. This is not what most bulimics want so what is the solution?

One of the biggest worries for a bulimia sufferer is the chubby appearance of their face. It is often more worrying than the constant hoarseness of their voice or a sore throat, which is typically inflicted upon people with bulimia nervosa. If you are suffering from swollen glands in your face and feel the need to jump straight into a diet or food restriction in an attempt to bring the size back down..then you need to think twice!

Swollen glands in your face such as the Lymph nodes, Salivary glands and Parotid glands, are one of the tell tale signs and common side effects of bulimia. Often this is brought about by frequent bingeing and purging, which aggravates areas of your face and neck. By now you may have noticed the direct correlation of your chaotic binging and vomiting, and the prominent gland enlargement.

Unlike the swollen glands that occur in a healthy person indicating invasive infection, in a bulimia sufferer the enlargement of your face and glands are due to your natural body’s defense mechanism, to counter the damage caused by constant attack from the stomach acids like Hydrochloric acid. This onslaught or irritation is what gives that permanent look of a round face that most sufferers despise as it makes them feel “fat”. The fact that the rest of your body feels normal or proportionate may go unnoticed or fail to give you any comfort. Instead your bulimia pre-occupation or obsession fuels you to enter into a compensatory behavior such as dieting, food restriction, over exercising laxative or diuretic abuse.

Unfortunately, your body can only go about reducing and normalizing the shape and size of your glands, if the behavior of bingeing and purging dramatically reduces or stops all together. The rate of swollen gland recovery time will depend very much on your own body’s ability to reverse the damage done in the area of your throat, jaw, mouth and upper gut (Oesophagus). Swelling, bleeding, or ulcers including losing your voice and being more prone to sore throat and infection in this region are all good indicators that bulimia behavior is costing you your slim facial appearance that you want so much.

If the size and shape of your face concerns you enough to take action’ you will need to be fully receptive and committed towards your bulimia treatment and bulimia recovery. There are no halfway compromises about stopping your face swelling and keeping your eating disorder alive. Decision to sacrifice the benefits of bulimia is necessary, as even on the rare occasion of bingeing and purging the round and fuller face will come back in matter of minutes!

The good news is that you can decide to get help for your bulimia and gradually stop this very damaging behavior all together, whilst gaining self confidence, great body image and a beautiful face that you can be happy seeing in the mirror.

"How To Beat Bulimia …In Less Than
8 Weeks"

"A simple, risk-free, 8-week course designed to help you break free from Bulimia – forever."

Dear Friend,

If you’d like to let go of bulimia, feel good, strong and confident, then this might be the most important letter you’ll ever read.

Here’s why:

Bulimia can be very harmful not only physically but mentally too. On the physical side, it can damage your teeth & gums, make your face & glands swell-up and cause your kidney to malfunction… some cases result in a heart attack due to an electrolyte imbalance. If you are pregnant then this could have serious complications for your unborn baby.

Yet, it is the psychological aspects that cause
the most serious and long term damage for sufferers.

Bulimia has a tendency to crush your self-esteem which in turn makes you feel unconfident and your self-belief takes a nose dive.

This downward spiral only gets worse after each binge and purge; because your self-esteem is chipped away after a binge eating episode plus to try and make yourself feel better you force yourself vomit. However, you don’t feel better; on the contrary, you feel worse and are then consumed with guilt and shame.

When you are not feeling confident and are unsure of yourself, it affects all areas of your life. Most noticeably if you are a student your exam results tend to suffer, if you are at work your performance drops and if you want to attract a potential partner, the reverse happens and you repel them.

This does not exclude those of you in long term relationships either, as the quality of the bond in your relationship is damaged by your emotional distance!

Recovery from bulimia requires more than an
intellectual understanding of how bulimia works.

It requires that you learn new skills – skills that retrain your body and mind to behave differently and see the world in a new way.

Wanting to be free from bulimia is the starting point, but to actually break free and live life to your full potential, you have to believe with certainty that you can do it and you can achieve your goals.

Over many years I have studied the causes of bulimia and how it traps you in a vicious downward spiral and from my painstaking research have developed treatments, strategies and a comprehensive holistic solution – which helps my clients achieve lasting results.

The good news is that once you are free from the shackles of bulimia, you are now able to focus on developing your full potential and achieving things you didn’t know you could achieve.

I concentrate on a holistic, whole person solution
because bulimia affects the whole of you – mind and body.

This powerful treatment is drawn from the areas of cognitive-behavioral therapy, NLP, nutrition, physiology, psychology, personal development, medicine, stress management, emotional freedom therapy, hypnosis and more. The result is a uniquely powerful combination of breakthrough strategies not found anywhere else!

Now, I know you’re probably skeptical. That’s normal and healthy. Let me give you three good reasons why we can back up what we claim:

Three Reasons to Believe What I Say

You gain access to real-world strategies which help you reverse your bulimia.

You have a ‘how-to’ resource that goes way beyond talk and actually SHOWS you what to do, step by step. It’s like the difference between reading a book on how to ride a bike and actually riding one. We show you how to ‘ride the bike.’

It’s as if we’re right beside you, as we show you, precisely step by step, how to go about freeing yourself from bulimia.

You save yourself time, money, and frustration with a success tool that puts YOU in control.

You’ll shorten your learning curve and feel confident knowing these techniques have worked for people like you. If you want to quickly and effectively conquer bulimia, it makes sense to leverage what has worked for others that have been in your shoes.

Imagine how powerful it would be to learn concrete ways to stop the pain of despair because you can’t see your future improving, defuse guilty feelings, increase concentration levels, enjoy activities, people, and places you currently avoid.

Imagine what it would be like to have proven success strategies and breakthrough techniques right at your fingertips.

Warning: Do NOT buy any Bulimia Success Program
unless it meets the following 5 criteria

There is a lot of confusion surrounding our field. I want to give you 5 criteria or elements you absolutely, positively must have in any solution you obtain:

1: Is the provider a qualified practicing bulimia therapist with over 9 years experience?

2: Is it a holistic solution or does it just concentrate on binging and purging?

3: Are they focused on giving you the tools and "How To" techniques which deliver results. Or do they just give general indications on what might be useful?

4: Is the provider a recognized expert by any of the Eating Disorder Associations?

5: Do they carry out a self assessment exercise and provide a food diary?

You get at least 10 times your money’s worth!

You would normally pay $100.00 to $200.00 for one hour with a counselor. After, typically, 8-24 sessions, you would be a few thousand dollars out of pocket.

But now you can have your own personal Bulimia Success Program and use it over and over again in the privacy of your own home at the times which suits you best- at a fraction of the cost and so get 10 times your money’s worth!

But here’s something more important.

What you really need to consider is what you’re getting for your money – because it’s more than just a self-help program.

You get specific, step-by-step details that leave no questions unanswered, so you know precisely what to do to immediately start your recovery and learn the strategies for taking control of your life… right now.

What is the cost of feeling full of despair and hopelessness… the missed days of work, the cost of prescription drugs, the missed activities and the loss of quality time with loved ones… the time wasted living in pain and fear. The financial — not to mention emotional — cost of having bulimia is steep.

It is a small investment that will repay its self many times over.

In summary, here’s what you get:

Proven, simple techniques show you how to:

Stop binge eating forever

Wean yourself off vomiting, laxatives and diuretics

Manage lapses and relapses

Lose 2lbs a week without dieting

Identify the causes of your need to binge

Eliminate hunger and cravings

Do You Use Laxatives to Control Your Weight?

Do you reach for a packet of laxatives when you feel full, bloated, fat or heavy? Do you know what laxatives do to your body? Do you want to develop a healthy eating habit or break the cycle of bulimia or compulsive overeating?

People that suffer from bulimia or compulsive overeating often abandon a healthy eating habit and resort to the use of laxatives. One should be aware that they could experience terrible side effects. If you use laxatives inappropriately constipation, fluid retention, a bloated feeling and the very thing you are trying to avoid – weight gain – are potential problems. You deserve better and should adopt a healthy eating habit to combat bulimia or compulsive overeating.

Habitual use can have very serious side effects for you, such as; dehydration, impaired bowel function, electrolyte imbalance and endema. Blood in the stool indicates internal bleeding, which can lead to anemia, intestinal and liver tumors, as well as colorectal cancer. In the most extreme cases it can lead to death. Bulimia and compulsive overeating are curable.

Laxatives were developed to relieve constipation and because it is a non-prescription drug, it is widely available and abused by many bulimia or compulsive overeating sufferers. Be aware that laxatives can be addictive and because your body becomes more tolerant to them you may feel the need to take more to obtain the same effect. This is obviously not part of a healthy eating habit.
Do You Want to Wean Yourself From Laxatives?

These 5 suggestions are provided to help you to develop a healthy eating habit and overcome a dependency on laxatives if you suffer from bulimia or compulsive overeating

If you are a long-term user, consult with your doctor as soon as possible. If not, you can adopt the following tips to combat bulimia or compulsive overeating which may have led to the overuse of laxatives. It is dangerous to stop laxative use overnight, so gradually cut down your intake. Seek medical help if you need additional guidance or you can visit Bulimiahope.com to obtain information about maintaining a healthy eating habit and winning the struggle against compulsive overeating.

Make sure your diet contains plenty of natural fiber which aids healthy bowel movements. It is a healthy eating habit to consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. This is absolutely essential for someone that is affected by bulimia. You can expect your bowel movements to be in the range of 1 to 3 times a day or as infrequently as 3 times per week. All are considered normal. If your bowel movement is outside this range then speak with your doctor.

Drink plenty of water – 6 to10 glasses a day. This may seem excessive, but it is what your body is thirsty for and is another healthy eating habit for those affected with bulimia.

Participate in some gentle exercise like yoga or swimming which will aid to insure you bowel movements are regular. To help you maintain this regular exercise participate in a sport or physical activity that you enjoy.

Increase your intake of whole-grain bread, cereal and crackers. They add important bulk to your movements and nutrients to your body which enable it to heal.

Allow from 1 week to a couple of months for your body to recover from the effects of long term laxative abuse. It will take some time to adopt a healthy eating habit and overcome compulsive overeating.

Every time you are tempted to take a laxative, ask yourself: “what can I do which is more self-loving, right this minute?” Then act on it, however small the gesture is, it is the way to adopt a healthy eating habit and begin your recovery from bulimia or compulsive overeating.

Reasons To Get Help With Your Bulimia!

Are you tired and disgusted with binging and purging?

Do you want to feel better about yourself and be bulimia free?

Do you want to be able to cope more positively with stressful events or activities?

Do you want to enjoy a better “look” and learn how a good meal plan can assist you?

Do you want to develop a better relationship with someone?

There are many reasons to seek help when you wish to free yourself of a bulimic lifestyle. If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you have taken the first step to improving the quality of your life, developing better relationships with others and most importantly developing a feeling of self-assurance and confidence.
Encourage Yourself

Congratulations! You can do it! It is never easy to stop binging and purging. Bad bulimic habits are easy to acquire but much more difficult to shed. Remind yourself of the reasons you want to stop binging and purging. Write down exactly what it is that you want to change. Use the “KISS” principle. Keep it straight forward and simple! You are not writing a novel. Write down your goal in 10 words or less – ok, you can go to 15 if you must.

I will _________________ (fill in the blank).

Write it several times and put copies where you can be reminded of your goal to be bulimia free. Place a copy in the bathroom where you can view your bulimia goal the first thing every day. Place a copy in the kitchen where you can see it when you eat. The refrigerator door is a great spot to place a reminder. Fold up a copy and put it in your coat pocket. Some people select a small trinket that they carry with them to remind them of their goal. A small rock painted with fingernail polish, a small pendant or anything that can be placed in a pocket or purse as a reminder of the goal. Once you have recorded your goal in writing, the reminder item will serve to do what it is intended to do – remind you how you want to be free from bulimia!

What you have done is set a goal. The next step in to select the time frame for the accomplishment of that goal. Remember “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and no one can change overnight. Select a time frame that is achievable. You don’t want to be defeated by setting a time frame that is unrealistic.

Be joyful when you achieve success! Each day of success prepares you for the next successful day. Imagine that you are constructing a home. Remember your physical body as well as your emotions, perceptions, sense of well-being and sense of satisfaction is your home. Anyway, imagine that you are building a foundation of success one brick at a time. In the morning you pick up your brick and at the conclusion of the day you place the brick of success on your foundation. In a relatively short time you will have constructed a fortress!

Sometimes it is possible to lose the brick. Don’t despair; don’t give up! Prepare yourself for next day of building. Can you carry an extra brick? If so, do it. If not, just carry one.

You Can Do It!

Hope, desire and the strength to change yourself is within you. You already recognized that a change was necessary and you wrote what it is that you want to change. You carry it with you – in your mind as well as in your pocket.

Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, said “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Edison failed 1000 times before he was able to perfect the light bulb. Would we be living in the dark if Edison had given up one attempt before he achieved success?

Be like Edison. Know you can be bulimia free. Never quit! Never give up! You have the power to beat bulimia!

Controling your binging and purging cycles is the key to treating bulimia. Learn 10 tips on how to control this behavior.

Here are 10 tips to take control of your binging & purging!

You can follow some or all of them to take control of your bulimia. The more the better!

1. Plan ahead to avoid the stress that may cause you to binge & purge.

Make a list of 3 scenarios in your life that may lead to binging & purging due to bulimia. Is it cravings? Weight gain? Conflict? Stress at work or home? Something else?

Be specific. Be concise. Write down how you will respond to these situations without compromising your goal of overcoming binging & purging and making bulimia a thing of the past. Write the list several more times. Put a list in the bathroom where you see it the first thing in the morning, in your purse or your pocket or on the refrigerator door. Remind yourself that you have a goal! You can do it!

2. Control your cravings by eating as soon as you feel hungry. This will enable you to take control of your bulimia and stop the binging & purging behavior.

(Eat before starting the exercise in tip number 3)

3. Temptation is your worst enemy and leads to the bulimia induced binging & purging behavior. Learn to control your urges:

Arrange five medium risk foods on a table in front of you. For one hour read, watch TV, listen to music or engage in an activity with the food in view. After one hour, put it away.

Congratulations! You have taken the first step to controlling bulimia and preventing that binging & purging behavior

When you can master the above step, do the same with your high-risk foods. Work on this very hard, don’t give up… with time and patience you will be able to resist even the most tempting foods available on this planet! Remember bulimia is curable and the binging & purging behavior is preventable.

4. Recruit a friend – your spouse, a friend at work, a parent or anyone you feel comfortable enough to ask for a little assistance – let them be your inner voice and allow them to help you. Allow them to remove you from potential time bomb scenarios that will let the bulimia take control and lead to that awful binging & purging.

Ask them not to embarrass you. Subtle hints like a raised eyebrow, a hand on your shoulder or a word of encouragement is what is needed. Conquering bulimia is your goal and you can do it!

5. Take your Time: Enjoy! Eat slowly with only a small amount of food in front of you. This will allow you the opportunity to enjoy the flavor, texture, color and smell of each item. Maximize the experience! Don’t let bulimia take control. Don’t let binging & purging become a way of life.

6. Take a long hot soak in the bath before you attend what you believe will be a stressful event. Relax before eating by taking 5 deep breathes: inhale, hold each breath for 1 second and exhale slowly. Think about how you are going to control the bulimia and extinguish the binging & purging behavior forever.

7. Be adventurous and limit your usual foods such as chips, cakes, bread, crisps and go for the more unusual item on the menu or the table. Widen your horizon and experiences. Who knows? You may discover a great delight in a completely new food! Remember the adventure is the conquest and you are conquering bulimia and the associated binging & purging!

8. Remember the costs of bulimia and binging & purging. Is it worth putting yourself through those negative feelings? What you may put on in weight will not be hard to loose. All you will need to do is gradually increase your activity. So keep life in perspective and enjoy every occasion.

9. If you know certain situations or environments will make you want to engage in binging & purging learn to say no to a few invitations. By controlling your bulimia, you are learning to control your life. We all know what a good feeling that is.

10. Learn to relax your rules by recognizing that progress is always measured in steps. You are taking the right step by reading this. You may make a backward step. Don’t worry! Relax and get back on course. You can do it! Bulimia will not control you! Binging & purging will be gone if you keep trying.

Working to follow these steps will put you on the path to being a former bulimia victim.
